Hello!
Fall is upon us, with all its glorious transformations… leaves are changing, the temperature is amazing, mums are blooming, and it’s back to school time for me and mine. How does back to school time factor into the Chronicles of Will, you ask? Read on, my friend, and you’ll be as surprised as I was!
The land healing work in New Castle County has shifted since the last posting. When asked what the Delaware state flower is, I’m strongly tempted to respond with “orange construction barrels.” There is literally construction EVERYWHERE. I used to list out the few places that I knew of in my morning meditations, to send those spots some extra healing. Now there are too many to count. It’s like Maria in the Sound of Music, when she couldn’t remember the name of the last kid… she just said something like ‘Gods bless the other one!’ My daily land healing has evolved into, “…and healing to all those other places that I can’t remember but I know need help.”
Jess is dealing with the same thing in her commute. All the way up I95… it’s orange barrels as far as the eye can see. I honestly think that they’re multiplying while we aren’t looking. Jess’s perspective is that construction is another way of healing the land. The road work is giving us a multitude of opportunities to continue the work.
While the orange is “blooming” everywhere, my personal morning routine has also shifted. I’m now dropping off multiple family members at their stops, while on my way to work. More people in the car and more pit stops equal a longer drive, but there’s less quiet time to do my traveling healing work. So, while the number of spots that need help are ever increasing, the time to do the work has shrunk. My magickal life is mirroring my personal and work life… do more with less and keep it moving.
And that brings me back around to the “back to school” topic… tomorrow is picture day. While discussing with my teenager what the best option was – general retouching, or super uber major retouching – for his pictures, I had to laugh. I recall discussions with my parents and being asking how many sodas and how much stress would show up in my yearly portrait. Some were better than others. The Princess Leia hairdo in third grade was NOT my best choice!
Anyway, we opted for super retouching. Those pictures are expensive, so it leaves less to chance. Then it occurred to me, retouching is like the Photoshop version of Clearasil. They are both band-aides that fix an existing problem, which is a very different approach than preventative care.
Stick with me here for a minute… Clearasil in 20 spots will fix 20 breakouts, but daily cleansing and moisturizing keeps skin healthy. It also helps prevent break outs over time. Not that construction is the planet’s version of acne… well, maybe it is.
It was in this moment that I realized I’ve been treating our orange barrel epidemic like 20 individual break outs. I got caught up in the whack-a-mole, fix it, fix it mindset. This was an opportunity for me to shift back to general cleansing and a layer of healing that will hopefully help with the overall wellness of the area. It also eliminates the need to remember the 20 places that are currently under construction!!! That won’t stop my healing hands from buzzing when I pass an area that is REALLY in need of some help. But it does turn an unmanageable list of spots into a much more effective method.
I’m not sure if you experience these types of shifts in your life – or have to deal with an occasional picture day. If you do, it’s always good to take a minute, muse a little, and then re-chart your course if you need to. At least, that works for me. In the coming weeks, I’ll apply my new approach, and hopefully see things start to clear up over time. And that, my friend, is plenty of my musing for you, for now.
With much love, light, LAUGHTER, and healing,
Kathy, GBM
